Story Boards:

Games are a fun way for students to build a "sense" or complete understanding of mathematical concepts. Shake and Spill games help students learn the different parts of a number such as 7 and 0, 6 and 1, 5 and 2, 4 and 3, 3 and 4, 2 and 5, 1 and 6, 0 and 7 all make the number 7.  Students use their "Just Right Number" such as 7 with each of these games.  When the student knows all of the combinations of a number without hesitation, they have mastered the number. The student progresses to the next number,  The new "Just Right Number" is 8.  Students may use the "blank" Story Board for any number 5 - 10 and beyond once they have a clear understanding of the game.

These games are purposely staged by starting with Shake and Spill games then Story Boards followed by Bead Bracelets.

Story Boards uses an engaging, real world story as the basis to introduce the concept of subtraction.
